Initially specialised in marine insurance (from LIA v Mosse in 1977 to North Star Shipping v Spehere Drake in 2005), then oil trading (Sun International v Bulk Oil (1983 1LLR and 1984 1LLR) ORIENT PRINCE (1985 1LLR0 NOEL BAY (1989 1LLR). Also handled a variety of shipping cases, mostly involving Arbitration, but some High Court cases eg the “HOUDA” (1992 1LLR)

In 1985 took on the Brink’s Mat recovery (some aspects of which are reported as Brinks Mat –v- Elcombe and others as Brink’s Mat v Abu Saleh) which lasted 20 years. This led to an additional specialisation in fraud and asset tracing, and related subjects (for example Papamichael v Nat West Bank 2002). Handled cases such as recovery of “lost” Dali painting stolen in 1975, recovery of assets from fraudulent employees, “prime bank guarantee” fraud dispute, recovery action following forgery and false accounting by company director and dispute over purchase of substantial modern art collection.
